Frequently asked questions
What is yoga therapy and how is it different from a yoga class?
A yoga class, even a wonderful one, is designed for a group. The teacher offers a practice and you do your best to follow along. Yoga therapy is something different. It is a one-on-one relationship where the practice is built entirely around you, your health history, your goals, your nervous system, and your life.
Yoga therapy views each person as a whole, body, breath, mind, and spirit, and works to support balance across all of those layers. Rather than asking you to fit the practice, we shape the practice to fit you. That might include breathwork, gentle movement, guided relaxation, meditation, or lifestyle support, whatever your system needs most in that moment.
Do I need any prior yoga experience?
Not at all. In fact, some of my favorite sessions are with people who have never set foot on a yoga mat. Yoga is not about what your body can do. It is about cultivating awareness and creating the conditions for healing. We begin exactly where you are, and we build from there at a pace that feels supportive and sustainable for you.
How do virtual sessions work?
Virtual sessions are conducted via a secure video platform and are surprisingly intimate and effective. You will need a quiet space where you feel comfortable, enough room to lie down if needed, and a device with a camera. That is it.
Many clients actually find that working from home deepens their practice because they are already in their own environment, the place where stress tends to show up and where new habits need to take root. The real practice happens off the mat and in daily life. Virtual sessions support exactly that.
What can I expect from my first session?
Your first session is really about listening. Before we do anything else, I want to understand you. We will talk about your health history, what is bringing you here, what you are hoping to feel, and what a meaningful improvement would look like for you. From there we will establish some simple, measurable markers of progress so that we can track how things are shifting over time.
We will also do a brief introductory practice together so you can get a feel for what yoga therapy is like. Most people leave their first session feeling lighter, a little more settled, and quietly hopeful. That is the goal.
How many sessions will I need?
The honest answer is that it depends. Sustainable change happens through practice that is regular, sustained over time, and undertaken with intention. A single session can offer real relief and a meaningful shift in awareness. But lasting change, the kind that reshapes patterns and restores balance at a deeper level, tends to unfold over time.
The Sage Experience, my introductory three-session package, is designed to give us enough time to assess, practice, and begin to see real movement toward your goals. Many clients continue beyond that with individual sessions as needed. We will always move at your pace and I will never recommend more than what truly serves you.
